The most important advantages of Kerkes stones:
  • They do not need to be washed before installation in the heater.
  • They are easy to install in the heater, as they are available in several thicknesses to fit between the heating elements, which saves time.
  • Saves energy (electricity for electric heaters and wood for wood-fired heaters).
  • Lasts 5-6 times longer than ordinary stones.
  • Do not damage the heater's heating elements due to their rounded shapes.
  • Provides a better sauna infusion.
  • Provides better internal ventilation in the heater.
  • Emits no toxic fumes or stone dust.

Do the stones in your sauna heater look like this? Then it's time to replace them with Kerkes long-lasting, handmade and hard-fired ceramic sauna stones, because:

Normal stones of the granite type Diabase or Peridotite are NOT indestructible; they are volcanic rock types that slowly weather.

They contain tiny pockets of volcanic gases such as sulfur, arsenic, and radon. When heated, they cause small explosions that make the stones split and break off small pieces, creating sharp edges that can damage the heater's heating elements.

It can happen that the uneven shapes push the heating elements around and deform them. The uneven shapes and sizes make it a bit of a "puzzle" to install them in an electric heater, as they constantly need to be assessed, turned, and rotated to fit between the heating elements, which wastes time.

Already after the 1st heating, they lose approx. 5% of their weight and then approx. 1-2% per heating, so after approx. 100 heatings, they are as light as pumice stones.

Before being placed in the heater, they must be washed clean of stone dust, which has arisen because the stones rub against each other. This also happens during use, where the stone dust spreads in the sauna room.

In this way, they cannot accumulate heat, which results in longer operating time for the heating elements, faster cooling during sauna infusions, and thus greater electricity consumption. At the same time, the discarded edges rattle down to the bottom of the heater as gravel and small stones, which in unfortunate cases can lead to short circuits or earth faults that can black out the entire group to which the sauna heater is connected.

This is what the hard-fired ceramic stones from Kerkes look like 1 year after replacement!

How to install the stones in Tylö heaters:
  • First, the spherical stones are placed between the heating elements; the 60 mm diameter fits perfectly with the curve of the heating elements.
  • Then the large tetra stones are placed on top of the spherical stones.
  • After that, the small tetra stones are placed at the top.
  • This way, a large surface area is achieved, which can evaporate the sauna infusion water faster.

What are the different stone types used for?

Intermediate stones: For electric sauna heaters without a separate stone chamber.
Placed between the rows of heating elements in a thickness that matches the distance between the rows of heating elements.

Spherical stones: For electric sauna heaters with a separate stone chamber and wood-fired heaters. Placed at the bottom of the stone chamber almost up to the top edge.

Tetra stones: For all types of heaters! Placed as the second/top layer, so that the pyramid-shaped stones with their many indentations provide a large active surface area that can evaporate the sauna infusion water before it reaches the heating elements.

Large tetra stones (Tl): used for large/medium-sized heaters as the 1st layer after the spherical stones/intermediate stones. Normally 1 layer of these is placed.

Small tetra stones (Ts): used for medium/small heaters as the 2nd or 1st layer after
the large tetra stones or spherical stones/intermediate stones. Normally one layer of these is placed.

Mini tetra stones (Tm) are used as top stones for medium/small heaters.
